Chefferee is a daily food quiz. We collect as little as we can to run it, count visits and pay for it with ads. This page says what that involves.
Who we are
Chefferee is run by an individual in the UK, who is the controller of the data described here. For anything about your data, email privacy@chefferee.com.
Playing the quiz
Your answers and progress are saved in your own browser (local storage), so you can pick up where you left off. They stay on your device.
When you finish a quiz, your answers go to our server, which works out your score and stores it with the date and a random ID your browser made for this purpose. That's what lets us show how your score compares with everyone else's. The ID isn't linked to your name, email, IP address or anything else about you, and other players only ever see totals, never individual scores.
Clearing this site's data in your browser deletes the ID and your saved progress; a new ID is made next time you finish a quiz.
Analytics
We use Umami to count visits and see which parts of the quiz people use, such as hints, moving to the next round and sharing results. Umami sets no cookies and doesn't store your IP address. It uses your IP address briefly to work out your country and to tell visits apart within a day, then discards it. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.
Advertising
The site is paid for by ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technology to show ads, to limit how often you see them and, if you agree, to tailor them to your interests based on your visits to this and other sites.
Where the law requires it, including in the UK and EEA, we ask for your consent before ads use cookies or personal data, and you can change your choice at any time. Without consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for things like fraud prevention and frequency capping.
Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services, or manage personalised ads in Google's ad settings.
Who else handles data
- Vercel hosts the site. Like any web host, its servers see your IP address and keep short-lived request logs.
- Supabase stores the quizzes and the anonymous scores described above.
- Umami provides the analytics.
- Google provides the ads.
Some of these providers process data outside the UK, under the safeguards UK law requires for international transfers.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Email us at the address above. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
If this page changes, the date at the top will too. Back to today's quiz.
